Shootaround — Privacy Policy

Shootaround ("the app", "we") is a basketball shot-tracking app. This policy explains what the app accesses and what happens to that information. The short version: everything is processed on your phone, and nothing is uploaded unless you yourself send it (the "Upload session" or "Share" buttons).

The short version

• The app records from your camera and microphone only while you are running a shooting session, to detect makes, misses, dribbles, and where you shoot from.
• All processing happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded automatically — data leaves your phone only when you explicitly tap Upload session or Share.
• The app's internet access is used for exactly one thing: the optional "Upload session" button described below. It has no account system, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and it never transmits, sells, or shares any personal information in the background.
• Your stats and any stored images live only on your phone and are removed when you clear the app's storage or uninstall it.

What the app accesses, and why

Camera. During a shooting session the camera watches the hoop and the ball so the app can call each shot make or miss, chart where shots were taken, and (optionally) read your stance to place the shot on the court. Video is analyzed live on the device and is not recorded to a shareable file by the shot tracker.

Microphone. The microphone is used to hear the ball bounce for dribble counting and timing. Audio is analyzed on the device and is not saved as a recording.

Optional session video (off by default). You can choose to record a session on video ("Record video" in the session screen). If you turn it on, the camera view and microphone sound are saved as a video file on your phone only. Nothing is uploaded automatically — the video leaves your device only if you yourself send it ("Upload session" or a share, to help improve shot tracking). Only the newest few session videos are kept; older ones are deleted automatically, and you can delete them any time by clearing the app's storage. Recorded video can include you and other people at the court — please get their OK before recording.

Short pre-shot image frames. To work out where on the court a shot was taken, the app keeps a few small still frames from just before each shot (these can include an image of the person shooting). These frames are stored only on your device, are used only for the on-device shot-position analysis, and are automatically limited to the most recent sessions — older sessions' frames are deleted as new ones are captured.

What is stored, and where

Session results (makes, misses, shot locations, timing), app settings, court calibration, and the short pre-shot frames described above are stored in the app's private storage on your device. The app deliberately excludes this data from Android cloud backup, so it is not copied to Google's servers.

What we do NOT do

• We do not connect to the internet on our own — the only network activity is an upload you start yourself by tapping "Upload session".
• We do not create accounts or ask for your name, email, or phone number.
• We do not include advertising, analytics, tracking, or any third-party SDKs that collect data.
• We do not sell or rent any data, and we do not transmit or share anything except the session data you explicitly choose to upload or share.

There is no Shootaround server. The only place your data can go is the Google Drive folder described under "Security" below — in your own Google Drive — and only when you send it.

Keeping or deleting your data

Your data stays on your device until you remove it. To delete everything, clear the app's storage (Android Settings → Apps → Shootaround → Storage → Clear storage) or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes all session data, images, and settings.

Diagnostics

If you install the app through Google Play and leave Play's standard crash reporting on, Google may collect anonymous crash and performance information at the operating-system level. This is handled by Google Play, not by the app, and is governed by Google's own policies. The app itself contains no crash-reporting or analytics code.

Age

Shootaround is intended for people 18 years of age or older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Security

Uploads are entirely user-initiated (beta). The app uses its network access for exactly one thing: when you tap "Upload session," the session's shot data, your corrections, and the video (if you chose to record one) are uploaded to a "Shootaround uploads" folder in YOUR Google Drive, which the app creates and shares with the developer so the tracking models can be improved. After a successful upload, the video file is deleted from your phone to free space (your stats stay). Because the upload folder lives in and is shared from your own Google Drive, the developer can see the Google account name/email it was shared from; the uploaded session file also records your phone's model (e.g. "Google Pixel 8a") so tracking issues can be tied to a device type. No other identifiers are collected. You can stop uploading at any time, delete uploaded files from the folder in your Drive, and revoke the app's Drive access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. There is no analytics, advertising, or telemetry of any kind; apart from the upload you initiate, there is no data in transit to intercept and no server to breach. On-device data is protected by Android's standard app-sandboxing and by your device's own lock screen and encryption.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and the current version will be posted at this URL. Material changes will be reflected before or when a new app version that affects them is released.
